MOSINEE, WI (WSAU) – Houston-based Avelo Airlines officially announced on Wednesday that they will be ending their partnership with the Central Wisconsin Airport due to a lack of customer interest only a year after the routes began.
According to a statement provided by Avelo, the airline is “grateful for the support” and that the ending of the route was simply a business decision, saying, “Unfortunately, the CWA-MCO route was not profitable, and we do not expect it to be within a reasonable time horizon. Every route Avelo flies must be profitable or be on a trend line toward that goal. Before we commit to a new route, we conduct a thorough analysis of any available and relevant data. In most cases, the routes we enter succeed, and we continue to operate them. However, with those that do not, we must make the difficult decision to exit them.”
This move by the airline is part of a larger scale-back plan that includes ending routes in five other small regional airports such as Lansing Airport and Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport in Michigan, Dubuque Regional Airport in Iowa, Greater Binghamton Airport in New York, and Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport in Texas.
Back in March, Avelo announced that they would be pausing their flights between the Central Wisconsin Airport in Mosinee and Orlando for May before resuming the twice-weekly route on a new schedule and that the airline would be booking flights through August 31st, while their fall and early winter schedules would be provided later this summer.

Avelo has served 4.8 million passengers on over 38,000 trips since it launched in April 2021 and believes that these moves will help the company “double down on the high-growth opportunities” in other markets like New Haven, Connecticut, and Burbank, California.
