EAGLE RIVER, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – The driver is unharmed after driving through two stop signs into a wooden fence at the end of Railroad Street, down an embankment, and into the water in an Eagle River crash Friday morning.
According to an Eagle River Police Department report, the incident happened just before 1:45 a.m. in Eagle River and occurred after the vehicle went through two stop signs without stopping, the car continued on Railroad Street, went over an embankment, and entered the river beneath the Bridge Street Bridge.
The driver did manage to get out of the car and seek medical attention at a neighboring house due to sustaining minor injuries.
Despite the driver’s claims to the police that there were other persons in the car, it was found that the driver was the only occupant. While the car was being removed from the river, Highway 45 in Eagle River saw only one lane of traffic and to help with the fuel spill into the water, the DNR also responded.
