FRIENDSHIP, WI (WSAU) — An Adams County man is accused of firing at officers while leading them on a chase through Big Flats is being held on a cash bond.
Investigators say Melvin Cornelious was high on meth and driving in the Town of Big Flats when he called 911, saying “there ain’t no way I’m going down with my guns and drugs.”
Officers caught up to his vehicle but he refused to stop, at one point getting out of his vehicle and firing at officers. A Sheriff’s Deputy returned fire, striking him.
Officers provided first aid at the scene before booking him into the Adams County jail on charges of attempted homicide, recklessly endangering safety, and intentionally pointing a firearm at officers.
He’s also facing a felony count for possession of meth.
The 45-year-old is being held on a $50,000 cash bond. Further court action against him is pending.
