TOMAH, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – The International Meteor Organization reports that on Thursday, July 11, a fireball sped across the night sky.
Witness reports for Event 3418-2024 were received between 11:02 and 11:10 p.m. from Tomah, Spring Green, McFarland, and Baraboo.
The fireball was easily visible Thursday night over northern Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota due to the clear sky. One witness described the fireball as “bright and green with a substantial tail approximately 4x the length of the sphere.”
Fireball objects have been seen across the U.S. throughout this year, with the most recent coming earlier this month over Malakoff, Texas, which NASA officials confirmed was a meteor that was moving at 58,000 mph and was visible in at least four other states. Other sightings of streaking lights in the sky have also been seen over Los Angeles, Long Island, New York, southern Russia, and Massachusetts in recent months.
