TOWN OF HAZELHURST, WI (WSAU) — A three-vehicle crash on US 51 has left two people dead and a third hospitalized.
According to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, a northbound vehicle was stopped near the South Blue Lake Road intersection waiting to make a left turn off the highway. That vehicle was rear-ended by a second vehicle.
The impact forced the first vehicle into the southbound lanes, where it was struck by the third vehicle traveling south.
Both of the occupants in the first vehicle died at the scene. Their names have not been released, pending family notifications.
At least one other person was hospitalized for injuries. No update on their condition has been given.
The crash occurred at 2:30 PM on Friday. Highway 51 was closed for several hours while crews investigated and cleared the scene. Traffic was diverted to Onida County Road D during that time.
No further information has been released at this time. First responders from Hazelhurs, Cassian, Minocqua, the Wisconsin State Patrol, Wisconsin DNR, and Oneida County all responded to the scene.
