WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – Six train cars derailed but none of the cars featured any hazardous materials in the derailment south of Highway 29 near Veritas Steel on Sunday.
There were also no injuries reported to the two-person crew (engineer and conductor). The cars that derailed had shingles and granules in them.
According to Ken Lucht, assistant vice president of government and industry relations for the Fox Valley & Lake Superior Rail System, crews are being called in this week to clean up the cars and dismantle and scrap the ones that were turned over.
Inspectors will not know the cause until they investigate the scene.
