WASHINGTON D.C. (WSAU) – Billionaire and former Democrat Elon Musk made a major announcement to make large monthly donations to former President Donald Trump’s reelection campaign as the RNC moves into day two in Milwaukee.
According to a Wall Street Journal story cited by sources, Elon Musk intends to contribute roughly $45 million monthly to a new super PAC backing former President Donald Trump’s presidential bid after years of providing financial support to Democratic candidates. Musk, who voted for President Joe Biden in 2020, was a strong supporter of former President Barack Obama in both 2008 and 2012, included giving $35,800 to the Obama Victory Fund for the former president’s re-election bid and also donated $30,800 to the Democratic National Committee back in 2011 while also donating $5,000 toward Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign for president, saying that Trump lacks the “sort of character that reflects well on the United States.”
The PAC, known as the American PAC, will help get out the vote for Republican candidates, including the former President, and has several other notable backers, such as Facebook co-founders the Winklevoss twins, who support Trump’s policies toward cryptocurrency, former U.S. Ambassador to Canada Kelly Craft, and her husband Joe Craft, CEO of coal producer Alliance Resource Partners.
This funding comes just days after the former president survived a would-be assassination attempt during a Pennsylvania rally and has seen a rise in the polls with the latest poll from YouGov and The Times, which shows Trump up by five percentage points in Wisconsin, up nine percentage points in Arizona, up six percentage points in Georgia, up five percentage points in Nevada, and up three percentage points in Pennsylvania.
