MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – The Milwaukee Brewers announced a few roster moves on Wednesday morning, including placing a star outfielder on the IL.
According to MLB.com’s Adam McCalvy, Christian Yelich (back) has been placed on the 10-day IL after experiencing back tightness during Tuesday’s 1-0 win over the Chicago Cubs. In his place, catcher Gary Sanchez has been reinstated from the IL after missing the last month due to a calf strain.
This will be Yelich’s second stint on the IL this season due to back issues after being placed on the list in April, and he has struggled since the team returned from the All-Star break on Saturday, going just 1-20 at the plate.
“I don’t really want to get into the specifics of it, but yeah, not great,” Yelich told Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel when asked about the specifics of his upcoming recovery plan.
Yelich, who spoke to the media about the injury on Wednesday, stated that he’s scheduled to see a back specialist on Thursday who may recommend season-ending back surgery saying, “Go from there, as far as what’s gonna be the best for the near future and into the future. So a couple of different discussions I think need to be had. And kind of try to see where we’re going from that.”
Yelich, who was a 2024 All-Star game starter, is hitting .315 so far this season with 11 homers, 42 RBIs, and 44 runs scored, in 73 games.
