MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Chicago Cubs for the eighth time this season on Wednesday, 3-2, behind a key hit from catcher William Contreras.
The Brewers’ bats were kept in check throughout the series but came up big when needed, as both Jackson Chourio and Blake Perkins went 2-4 on Wednesday but only totaled one RBI. William Contreras was hitless until his ninth-inning RBI double that scored Perkins and gave Joel Payamps the save opportunity, where he went three up and three down with two strikeouts to win the game.
The win went to Jakob Junis, who pitched three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and one walk after he took over for Bryse Wilson, who allowed just one earned run in four innings pitched.
Milwaukee extended their NL Central lead to six games with the win following the St. Louis Cardinals 5-0 loss to Pittsburgh.
The Brewers will return to action on Friday as they begin a three-game homestand against the Miami Marlins. Freddy Peralta will get the start for Milwaukee, while Trevor Rogers takes the mound for Miami, with the first pitch set for 7:10 on WSAU.
