MARATHON, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – According to a report from the Marathon County Sheriff’s Office, a woman who lived on a farm near Marathon passed away on July 16 when a cow pushed her against a feed fence.
Deputies were called to the 137700 block of Ahrens Road in the Marathon township at approximately eight in the morning on July 16 about a woman who was found unconscious inside a barn. The report confirmed that Nieves Sanchez-Tezohua was knocked down by a cow while assisting in moving the cows to the feed pen area. She then collided with a fence and lost consciousness.
A man brought her to the barn’s alleyway, and the veterinarian on the site began CPR. Sanchez-Tezohua had lost her job in La Crosse about two weeks ago and was working on chores and cleaning the barn.
When officers arrived, CPR was underway and would continue until EMS came. Sanchez-Tezohua was declared deceased at 8:45 a.m. and police discovered camera footage and found that as the cow reached a small opening in the gate, it stopped and pushed her against the headlock fence.
The autopsy revealed that Sanchez-Tezohua had suffered serious heart and organ injuries, as well as a cut on her head. The heart damage resulted in some severed arteries, which were most likely the cause of death.
