WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, the husband of Vice President Kamala Harris, will visit Wausau this weekend for the annual Hmong Festival, where he will be featured as the keynote speaker on Saturday.
The visit will mark Emhoff’s first visit to Wisconsin this year, as he’ll also stop at a voter canvassing event in Stevens Point, while Vice President Harris made her first campaign stop as the presumptive Democratic nominee in Waukesha earlier this week.
Yee Leng Xiong, chair of the festival’s executive committee, spoke about Emhoff’s visit in a statement, “The Hmong community has made Central Wisconsin their home for nearly 50 years, and the Second Gentleman’s visit is both historic and warmly embraced by our community. On behalf of the Hmong community, I am excited to welcome the Second Gentleman to Wausau this weekend as we celebrate the 7th Annual Hmong Wausau Festival. We look forward to working together to create a brighter future for our community!”
Former President Donald Trump won Marathon County in both 2016 and 2020. However, Wausau, which has the largest population of Hmong residents in the country, generally leans Democratic in presidential elections. While running for president in 2020, Joe Biden won the Hmong vote, which is worth up to 50,000 votes, on the way to winning the state of Wisconsin by less than 21,000 votes.
According to the latest poll from Redfield & Wilton Strategies, Trump and Harris are currently tied in the Badger State, while the latest Rasmussen poll finds Trump leading Harris nationally by seven percentage points and by twenty percentage points with registered independents.
