GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – The Green Bay Packers locked up their franchise quarterback Jordan Love on Friday night, making him the league’s highest-paid player, and now the deal’s full details have been made public.
According to Over the Cap, Love’s new deal does not have much of an immediate effect on the Packers’ salary cap. With an approximate $8 million increase this year, Love’s cap number in 2024 will be $20,257,731, with the cap amount being from a prorated signing bonus and a base salary of $3.5 million in 2024. Love’s cap amount stays below $40 million during the first three years of the deal (2024–26), while the cap hit will be slightly above $42 million even in 2027.
The $75 million signing bonus given to Love is an NFL record. However, his guaranteed base salaries are only $3.5 million in 2024, $11.9 million in 2025, and $10.4 million in 2026. Love also has total per-game roster bonuses equaling $600,000 every year between 2025 and 2028. He also has $500,000 in workout bonuses available every year between 2025 and 2028. Altogether, this is worth $4.4 million.
GM Brian Gutekunst spoke about Love’s deal during a press conference on Saturday, saying he’s “really excited for Jordan Love and his family. He’s been through a lot here. He’s worked his tail off, and he’s certainly earned this,” and continued by saying, “This is the guy who is going to lead us into the future, and we’re really excited about it.”
Gutekunst did say he believes Love’s could create “some challenges down the road,” due to the team adding three void years to the deal, meaning in 2029, when the deal would be scheduled to void, the team would be hit with a $34.7 million dead money cap hit, which could affect the team depending on its future financial needs.
