MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU) — Marshfield’s housing stock is getting a shot in the arm thanks to a new development featuring both single-family and multi-family units.
Mayor Lois TeStrake says it’s one of the more significant projects in recent memory and comes at just the right time for the community especially with the city’s Yellowstone Industrial Park receiving shovel-ready certification from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation. “It’s 120 acres that’s [ready to go.] If somebody moves in there, we need housing. So we are starting here to let them know we are serious. This is a huge deal.
“Boy, do we need it,” added TeStrake.

The Yellowstone Industrial Park is the only one in the state with that amount of contiguous land available, according to TeStrake. She adds that the city has received inquiries about the property, but nothing has progressed to serious talks.
She adds that it’s a situation where the city does have to put the cart before the horse when it comes to planning. “We don’t want to get too excited, but sometimes [it has to be done.]”
The work is being done in stages over the next few years. “They are slated to do eight homes per year,” said TeStrake. “Some single, some double. If they do one eight-plex, that’s all they will do for the year.”
The development could yield up to 72 homes, meaning construction will likely continue for up to nine years.
