MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – The Marshfield Police Department is currently trying to figure out where to go next, literally and figuratively.
The department is looking to move, and has a building selected, but there might be a better option.
Wildwood Plaza on the South end of the city is the possible location being looked at.
The department has had the building they are in for more than 40 years, and officials say its cramped. It doesn’t have a meeting room, supplies are being kept in maintenance rooms due to lack of storage, and several rooms are being used for multiple different groups and duties.
Michael Maas, Senior Architect of Lake Delton-based ADCI, said, “When we walked that building last year the thing that struck me the most I guess is that throughout the entire building, everywhere that we walked through I could see that functions were happening within that building, kind of stacked on top of each other if you will, in multiple locations.”
The plaza would need millions of dollars in renovations, around the amount to build a new building, and several city government members are skeptical they could get the referendum to pass through.
The Common Council did agree last Fall to take ownership of the Wildwood Plaza, but no further plans are in place at the moment.
