WASHINGTON, DC (WSAU) — Trade deadline acquisition Frankie Montas made his Brewers debut on Friday, and helped contain the Washington Nationals’ offense in an 8-3 win.
The former Cincinnati Red pitched five innings and allowed nine hits. He allowed just three earned runs and struck out five.
That was all the offense the Nat would get, as four relievers; Jered Koenig, Joel Payamps, Hoby Milner, and Elvis Peguero, would team up to allow just one additional hit and one walk over the next four innings.
Willy Adames, Sal Frelick, and Blake Perkins each recorded two hits. Perkins’ line included a pinch-hit, two-run single in the 6th inning. William Contreras added a solo home run in the 7th, while Brice Turang recorded an 8th-inning sac fly and Jackson Chourio tacked on another insurance run with an RBI single.
Milwaukee improves to 62-47 and owns a 6.5-game lead on the Cardinals in the NL Central. They’ll take on the Nationals again this afternoon with coverage beginning at 2:30 on WSAU.
