MADISON, WI (WSAU) – The Wisconsin Badgers are putting their final touches on their 2025 recruiting class by landing one of their top defensive line targets.
According to Badgers247, four-star defensive lineman Xavier Ukponu has committed to the University of Wisconsin after considering scholarship offers from Oregon, LSU, Oklahoma, and Florida.
When asked why he chose Wisconsin over all the schools that made an offer to him, Ukponu said the coaching staff made the difference, saying, “Everything coach Fickell stands for—he believes in developing men, and he stands by it. I also love the competition in the Big Ten. They play the best teams every week. He’s always there with the players. He works out with the players. He’s just always there. I love that in a head coach.”
Ukponu also said a close friend of fellow four-star Wisconsin-commit Mason Posa helped him make his decision, saying, “I can’t wait to play with my boy. We kept seeing each other everywhere. He told me Wisconsin was a great place and a great town, and the coaches were amazing. The recruiting staff really makes you feel wanted there.”
Ukponu will join 2024 four-star defensive lineman Ernest Willor Jr. to create one of the better defensive tackle duos in the Big Ten and a 2025 recruiting class that is currently ranked 23rd in the nation by 247 Sports.
