MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU) — Republican US Senate candidate Eric Hovde visited Roehl Transportation in Marshfield on Tuesday as part of his effort to get out and talk to voters where they’re at.
“I want to talk to people and listen to what their issues are,” said Hovde. “I want to speak to everyone. Democrats, Independents, and Republicans to let them know why I’m running and the issues I’m concerned about.”
Hovde says those issues include border security and inflation. He says he also wants to be known as someone who can end the division in Washington, which he knows is a tall task. “It’s a message I’ve been trying to deliver, we have to end this division in our country and come together and put on the red, white, and blue jersey to solve our problems.
“Compromise has become a dirty word in Washington. We have to put our country first,” added Hovde.
Hovde also reacted to Tuesday’s big story- VP Kamala Harris’ selection of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate. Hovde says he doesn’t know much about the Democrat, but he thinks there were better options for Harris. “I was thinking, like everybody else, it would be someone like [PA Governor Josh] Shapiro. But, surprise surprise, that’s the direction she went.
“It’s her choice. Obviously, you want to choose somebody you’re more politically aligned with so I think that’s the [direction] she went,” added Hovde.
He added Walz and Harris have been rated as far-liberal in their elected offices; Governor and Senate, respectively.
Hovde faces two long-shot candidates in next Tuesday’s primary election. The presumptive GOP nominee has agreed to one debate with Incumbent Tammy Baldwin on October 18th, though Hovde has called for at least two other debates before the November 5th election.
