MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) — Jackson Chourio set the tone early with a first-inning triple and Willy Adames brought home three on a home run to lead the Brewers to a 5-3 win over the Cleveland Guardians on Friday.
Garrett Mitchell brought home one on a double in the third. Brice Turang added an RBI single in the 4th.
No Milwaukee batters recorded multiple hits in the game.
Aaron Civale pitched six scoreless innings and allowed just four hits to pick up the win. Joel Payamps earned the save.
Milwaukee improved to 70-52 on the season and now sits three games behind the New York Yankees for the best record in baseball. More importantly, they keep pace for the best record in the National League behind Philadelphia and the LA Dodgers, who currently have 72 wins each and occupy the top two spots in the Postseason standings.
The top two seeds in each league earn a bye to the Division Series. The Division winner with the third-best record will host a best-of-three Wild Card series against the #6 seed to open the Postseason.
Game two of the series is tonight. Pregame coverage on WSAU will begin at 5:40 on WSAU.
