COCHISE COUNTY, AZ (WSAU) – The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office has begun a manhunt for a man with a long list of active warrants who allegedly threatened to kill former President Trump as he visits the U.S. southern border on Thursday.
Ronald Lee Syrvud, 66, has multiple outstanding warrants for his arrest, including ones for a DUI in Wisconsin and a hit-and-run in Arizona, according to Sheriff Mark Daniels of the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office. Not only that, but he failed to officially register as a sexual offender after a judge previously ordered him to be added to the registry.
“Public safety consideration: Syvrud is being sought as an investigative lead for threats to kill a presidential candidate,” Daniels wrote in a post on the Department’s Facebook page. Syrvud is characterized as having green eyes, white hair, glasses, weighing 220 pounds, and standing six feet tall.
In an interview with NewsNation on Thursday, Carol Capas, a spokesperson for the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office, confirmed that Syrvud had made threats to kill the former President on social media and further stated that when officers attempted to apprehend Syvrud on Wednesday night at his residence, they were unable to find him, and the department is working with state and federal law enforcement partners to arrest him.
During Trump’s press conference on the U.S. southern border, a reporter asked if the former President was aware of the manhunt, to which he responded, “I haven’t heard about that. They probably want to keep it from me. Thank you very much for saying.”
On Thursday, President Trump traveled to Sierra Vista, Arizona, located in Cochise County, with the intention of “inspecting the southern border and meeting with the victims whose loved ones were attacked and murdered by illegal aliens set free into America by Comrade Kamala Harris.”
This manhunt comes just six weeks after Trump narrowly survived an assassination attempt during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
