COCHISE COUNTY, WI (WSAU) – Following a three-day manhunt, a sex offender who had allegedly threatened to kill former President Donald Trump was apprehended in Arizona.
According to the New York Post, at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Robert Lee Syvrud, 66, was taken into custody following a traffic check in Cochise County, where former President Trump had arrived shortly beforehand for a tour and visit to the southern border of the United States as a guest of Sheriff Mark Dannels.
Syvrud was wanted in connection with “threats to kill a presidential candidate” that he made in online remarks on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to the wanted posters that officials had previously posted. He also had “multiple outstanding warrants,” according to the sheriff’s office, including a DUI in Wisconsin and a hit-and-run in Arizona, where he is also wanted for not registering as a sex offender.
“At approximately 2:16 p.m., units on the scene observed the suspect traveling outside of the identified location, and a felony stop was conducted. Syvrud was taken into custody without further incident at approximately 2:30 p.m.,” the department said in a statement.
The specific sexual offense for which he had been previously found guilty was not made available by authorities and Syvrud remains in police custody for failing to register as a sex offender and making the alleged threats against Trump.
