MADISON, WI (WSAU) – As the Wisconsin Badgers get ready to begin their 2024 season this week, the program learned that one of their top defensive linemen could miss the entire season due to injury.
According to the Badgers Wire, which spoke to head coach Luke Fickell on Monday, redshirt senior defensive tackle James Thompson Jr. is dealing with an upper-body injury, saying, “I don’t know that we’ll have [James Thompson Jr.] for the year,” detailing that he had unspecified surgery last week that usually requires four to five months of rehab.
In 2023, Thompson Jr. recorded 29 tackles, five and a half tackles for loss, three sacks, and two pass deflections, and the team expected him to continue to improve in 2024. Wisconsin will look to transfers Elijah Hills (Albany) and Brandon Lane (Stephen F. Austin) to take over the position alongside Ben Barton and true freshman Dillan Johnson.
