GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – The Green Bay Packers appear to have acquired their new backup quarterback after acquiring former Tennessee Titans quarterback Malik Willis on Monday.
The deal was first reported by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports, in which he stated the Packers will be sending Tennessee a 2025 seventh-round draft pick in return for Willis.
Willis was selected in the 3rd round of the 2022 NFL draft by the Titans but failed to grow into the starting position, leading to the team drafting current starter Will Levis in the 2nd round of the 2023 NFL draft. He appeared in just eleven career games for Tennessee, completing 53% of his passes and throwing no touchdown passes compared to three career interceptions.
Former 5th-round pick Sean Clifford and 7th-round pick Michael Pratt have been competing to be Jordan Love’s backup through training camp, with both struggling to consistently move the ball. Clifford completed just 42.9% of his passes this pre-season, throwing just one touchdown pass, while Pratt completed 65.7% of his passes and also threw just one touchdown.
