RIB MOUNTAIN, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – Some Rib Mountain residents were protesting against a Tax Increment Finance District, or TID, that’s being considered by the village board. Currently, the plan is for it to reach from the Rib Mountain Golf Course, all the way down County Road NN to Robin Lane.
Some residents say that the area is just fine the way it is, and that businesses don’t need to be incentivized to come there.
Cindy Hogan said, “This corridor of double N, does not need improvement, the residents here don’t want improvement or development, and it’s one of the best pieces in all of Marathon County because of its proximity to Granite Peak.”
One of their biggest issues with the plan, was what they say is a lack of communication from the village board. Michael Johnson said, “We’ve not been told as residents exactly what the TID means for us, so we don’t know how bad the negative effects are going to be. We’d just like to hear more about that from the Board of Trustees at the village.”
The TID, and the projects that would come with it, would cost nearly $33 million dollars, and would include the village building sewer and water lines, forcing people with private wells to pay utilities. Johnson warned that the tax increment financing inside the TID, would have an impact outside of its boundaries. Many residents, who already use well water and septic systems, don’t want the expense of hooking up to water and sewer.
The Village Board hasn’t taken a vote on the TID yet.
