GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – One of the Packers’ top receivers could return to the field sooner than expected after suffering an ankle injury during the team’s 31-29 loss to the Vikings on Sunday.
According to head coach Matt LaFleur, Christian Watson will avoid being placed on injured reserve, saying, “Just talking to him today, we got lucky. We dodged a real bullet there. Because that looked pretty ugly. He’s definitely in good spirits, and he’s going to do whatever he can to get back as soon as he can.”
LaFleur expects that Watson could miss “a week or so” and missed practice on Wednesday and isn’t expected to practice this week before the team travels to Los Angeles to face the Rams on Sunday afternoon.
After four games in 2024, Watson has only five catches for 80 yards and one touchdown. Meanwhile, slot receiver Jayden Reed has seventeen catches for 336 yards, which is the sixth most in the league, and two touchdowns.
