MADISON, WI (WSAU) – The Wisconsin Badgers will be without their top running back for the remainder of the season due to concerns over past injuries.
According to BadgerExtra’s Colten Bartholomew, Badgers running back Chez Mellusi is stepping away from the team “to continue rehabbing injuries that prevented him from playing to his expectation.” He details in the report that in each of Mellusi’s three seasons with the Badgers (2021, 2022, and 2023), his injuries cost him a lot of time. These consist of a broken arm (2022), a torn ACL (2021), and a broken ankle and leg (2023).
With 232 running yards through four games in 2024, Mellusi led Wisconsin in rushing yards. Next with 153 yards is Cade Yacamelli, followed by Tawee Walker with 147. Walker will likely take over the starting running back job while Yacamelli is expected to serve as his primary backup.
