GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – The Green Bay Packers believe they will be without one of their top tight ends for the foreseeable future after he injured his ankle against the Vikings in Week 4.
According to head coach Matt LaFleur, who spoke to the media following Thursday’s practice, tight end Luke Musgrave has “been dealing with something and fighting through, so he’s going to be down for some time,” after he missed practice for a second straight day on Thursday.
LaFleur stated that Musgrave is “more than likely” headed to injured reserve, but the team isn’t closing the door on him returning to the field this season. When asked why Musgrave was active against the Rams on Sunday despite the injury, LaFleur said the team “didn’t (understand) how serious it was.”
Musgrave has struggled to produce during the first month of the 2024 season, recording just five catches for 22 yards in four games played, while fellow 2023 draft class member Tucker Kraft has become one of the best tight ends in football with sixteen catches so far this season for 218 yards and three touchdowns.
The Packers will continue to lean on rising star Tucker Kraft while Musgrave is out, and backup tight end Ben Sims is expected to see a larger role over the coming weeks.
