MADISON, WI (WSAU) – Despite the Wisconsin Badgers’ struggles on the field throughout the 2024 season, many of the nation’s top 2025 recruits will be coming to Madison next summer to help get the program back to its winning ways.
According to 247 Sports, the Badgers’ 2025 class is currently ranked 24th in the nation after officially landing their future quarterback in Carter Smith, who flipped his commitment from Michigan after the Wolverines flipped top overall recruit Bryce Underwood from LSU last month. Smith, who was the 2023 Gatorade Florida Player of the Year, after throwing for 2,223 yards with 29 TDs and only 4 INTs for Bishop Verot High School last season.
It remains to be seen what the Badgers will do at quarterback in 2025, as Wisconsin historically hasn’t been a program that starts true freshman quarterbacks and will likely give former four-star recruit Mabrey Mettauer an opportunity to win the job or turn to the transfer portal to sign a veteran quarterback such as former five-star Texas A&M quarterback Conner Weigman.
Wisconsin wasn’t done as pass rusher Jaylen Williams formally signed with the Badgers on Wednesday after flipping from Michigan recently. Williams, who is the 7th-ranked recruit from Illinois and the 279th overall player in the class of 2025, will likely see the field early next season as the Badgers defensive line has been plagued by the transfer portal in recent days, including redshirt freshman Hank Weber, starter Curt Neal, and Jason Thompson Jr. all declaring their intention to enter the portal.
Other key signees include four-star inside linebacker Mason Posa, four-star wide receiver Eugene Hilton, four-star defensive back Jamier Scott, four-star offensive lineman Hardy Watts, and three-star tight end Nizyi Davis. Players will have until Friday, December 6th to sign their national letters of intent.
The latest 247Sports in the top five 2025 recruiting class rankings currently belong to the Texas Longhorns, the Alabama Crimson Tide, the Georgia Bulldogs, the Oregon Ducks, and the Ohio State Buckeyes.
