MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – The Milwaukee Brewers Wall of Honor will be adding a new member in 2025.
According to The Game MKE’s Hunter Baumgardt, sources with the team have confirmed that former closer John Axford will be the organization’s latest addition to the wall, joining former teammates such as Ryan Braun, Prince Fielder, Rickie Weeks, Ben Sheets, Jonathan Lucroy, and several others. The organization has yet to set an official date for the induction.
Axford, who joined the Brewers organization in 2008 and made his MLB debut for Milwaukee in 2010, was named to Baseball America’s 2010 All-Rookie Team after he converted 24 out of 27 save attempts and held a 2.48 ERA in 50 appearances that season. He followed it up in 2011 by breaking the franchise record for saves in a single season (45) and was the first Brewer since Rollie Fingers to lead the National League in saves (46).
As it currently stands, Axford is third all-time in Brewers career saves (106), trailing only Josh Hader (129) and Dan Plesac (133). In comparison, former All-Star closer Devin Williams ranks 8th in the organization’s history with 68 career saves while with Milwaukee before he was traded to the New York Yankees last fall, and former closer Francisco Rodriguez is ranked fifth all-time in saves at 95.
