The Wausau Parks and Recreation Committee may honor their former Chair and District 1 Alder by naming a new recreation trail in his honor.
Monday’s meeting includes a proposal to name a recently completed section of the River’s Edge trail as the Pat Peckham Way. The trail runs from Thomas Street to Adolph Street, curving around the wastewater treatment plant and DPW campus.
According to the agenda packet, the trail was paved last year. Lights and other fixtures will be installed this summer before a ribbon cutting and dedication.
Peckham was a news reporter in Wausau, retiring in 2015. He didn’t stay out of the public eye long, serving multiple terms as District 1 Alder on the Wausau City Council before stepping down in 2022.
He was diagnosed with cancer late in his term, attending meetings remotely for the last few months.
