CONLEY COMMENTARY (WSAU) – Today at 4:30pm the Wausau Ethics Board meets to consider the absentee ballot drop box complaint against Mayor Doug Diny.
I’ve been saying for months that the end game is to remove a duly elected mayor from office.
Now comes a bombshell letter that was published by the Wausau Pilot & Review. If so, the fix is in. The writer alleges that three members of the Ethics Board have pre-judged the case. They will vote against the Mayor.
The writer says a letter was sent to the U.S. Attorney’s Office last October, about a month after Mayor Diny removed the unsecured drop box from outside City Hall. The signers of the letter were demanding a federal voting rights investigation into the mayor’s actions. One of the signers of that letter is Kay Palmer – who happens to be the chair of the Wausau Ethics Committee. A complainant against the Mayor now sits in judgement of him.
The Pilot & Review letter also raises questions about two other committee members: Doug Hosler, a donor to former mayor Katie Rosenberg’s campaign, and Jesse Kearns, who ran against Doug Diny in an earlier city council election. In short, three members of the ethics board are known opponents of the current mayor.
So, members of the Ethics Board, will any of you acknowledge your conflicts of interest and recuse yourself?
This shouldn’t be difficult. The case against the Mayor is false. He removed a locked dropbox that no one could have placed a ballot into. And now we learn that it’s the Ethics Board that has an ethics problem.
End this farce immediately.
