MADISON, WI (WSAU) — A Weston woman will serve six years in federal prison for methamphetamine charges after she was caught with pounds of the drug last spring.
Mercadys A. Perkins was sentenced on Thursday in the US District Court in Madison. Investigators say she was the leader of a distribution ring operating in the Wausau area. Officers raided her home in Weston, turning up more than 300 grams of the drug and $2,000 in cash. Drug ledgers and other drug trafficking tools were also present.
The Central Wisconsin Narcotics Task Force had been investigating the ring since early 2024, including controlled purchases from Perkins involving hundreds of grams of meth. Investigators found she handled more than 16 pounds of the drug between February and April.
At the time of the arrest, Perkins was on probation for a methamphetamine possession conviction and was out on bond on four open state cases, three of which involved methamphetamine trafficking. Her state probation was revoked, and she was sentenced to 2 years in state prison, which she is currently serving.
Her federal charge will overlap with the state sentence, meaning she will serve the first two years in state prison before spending the next four in federal prison. She will also serve five years of extended supervision.
Three others were charged in connection with this drug trafficking conspiracy. Co-defendants Joshua Lake, Jessica Colby, and Dustin Brunker have all pleaded guilty and are scheduled to be sentenced in the coming weeks.
