Justin Wojtalewicz
STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — A Portage County man accused of shooting a family member during an argument appeared in court Monday.
Justin Wojtalewicz faces felony charges for attempted homicide, battery, and recklessly endangering safety for the mid-March incident. Investigators say he shot Ryan Wojtalewicz in the leg during an argument. The victim was airlifted to a Wausau hospital with life-threatening injuries.
There’s been no update on Ryan’s condition. At the time, doctors said they may need to amputate the leg.
Justin, 42, is being held on a $1 million bond with several conditions, including a full no-contact order on Ryan and two witnesses. If he posts the cash, he will also be required to surrender all firearms and maintain absolute sobriety from drugs and alcohol.
Wojtalewicz waived a reading of the criminal complaint during the appearance. A preliminary hearing was then scheduled for May 7th, with his defense team noting they plan to file a motion for a bond reduction at that time.
He faces up to 150 years in prison if found guilty on all counts.
