GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – The Green Bay Packers have reached a deal with a former top-ten pick as they look to add more versatility to their defense.
According to NFL Insider Jordan Schultz, the Packers and free agent linebacker/safety Isaiah Simmons have agreed to terms on a deal that will bring the former Clemson star to Green Bay.
Simmons, 26, was selected 8th overall by the Arizona Cardinals in the 2020 NFL Draft before being signed by the New York Giants before the 2024 season where he played almost 400 snaps on special teams over the last two seasons, earning himself an 88.2 grade from Pro Football Focus.
During his five seasons in the NFL, Simmons has five career interceptions, including two that were returned for touchdowns, along with 8.5 career sacks.
The Packers declined to draft a linebacker or safety during last week’s NFL draft, and the signing of Simmons will give defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley a young veteran defender who has experience playing over the field.
