(WTAQ-WRN) — A 32-year-old Milwaukee police officer critically injured in a shooting last week has died.
Officer Kendall Corder was shot several times in his arm and chest, causing severe internal injuries that led to him being put on life support. Corder, who died Sunday, was one of two officers shot while responding to a shots-fired call on the city’s north side Thursday night.
“At this moment, we all are in pain,” said Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffery Norman. “We have lost someone who loved his career, who looked forward to being part of the work to impact public safety in our community.”
Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson echoed the sentiment.
“I can’t think of anybody more brave, anyone more honorable than Officer Corder who stepped in when necessary in order to protect our city,” said Johnson.
29-year-old officer Christopher McCrary was also shot in what police are calling an ambush. Police say neither officer was able to return fire.
McCrary suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was released from the hospital Saturday.
The 22-year-old suspect in the shooting was arrested the following day without incident.
