Desmond Mayo
WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A week-long jury trial has been scheduled for a Central Wisconsin man charged in connection with a near-fatal shooting incident from 2023.
Desmond Mayo will face one count of attempted homicide and two felony counts of bail jumping from July 13th through the 22nd, 2026. Charges stem from a shooting incident on February 4th, 2023, in which the 32-year-old allegedly shot a man multiple times.
The victim was able to drive himself to a local hospital for treatment. While hospitalized, he was able to give police a description of his attacker and identify him through photos.
Mayo then fled the Wausau area and was arrested a few weeks later in the Chicago area by US Marshals. He was extradited to Wisconsin and has since been held in the Marathon County Jail on a $200,000 cash bond.
A jury status hearing is scheduled for May 11th. Mayo has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
