Wisconsin Badgers
CHARLOTTE, NC (WSAU) — Wisconsin has added another College Football kickoff game to its future schedule.
The Badgers will meet Virginia Tech in the Duke’s Mayo Classic at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte on August 30th, 2031, both schools announced on Wednesday. The game had originally been scheduled for September 12th, 2031, which would have been the second week of the season.
“Kicking off the 2031 season with Wisconsin and Virginia Tech will be huge for the Queen City and for college football,” said Will Pitts, CEO of Charlotte Sports Foundation. “Both programs bring devoted fanbases and strong football legacies, ensuring the 2031 Duke’s Mayo Classic will deliver a memorable start to the season for college football fans both locally and across the country.”
It’ll be Wisconsin’s first game in Charlotte since a win in the 2020 Duke’s Mayo Bowl. The Badgers beat Wake Forest 42-28 to finish the year 4-3. It was also Wisconsin’s only non-conference game that season, as the Big Ten opted for a shortened, league-only schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The change will not impact Wisconsin’s home game in the two-game series, which is scheduled for September 18th, 2032. Wisconsin and Virginia Tech have never met in football.
Future Duke’s Mayo Classic games include West Virginia against Virginia in 2026, Notre Dame vs Wake Forest in 2027, and Tennessee vs West Virginia in 2028.
The Badgers are also scheduled to play in the 2027 Aer Lingus College Football Classic in Dublin, Ireland. That game is played the week before Labor Day weekend in what is unofficially known as “Week Zero” of the season.
Wisconsin has one open date on its 2030 schedule and two open dates in ’31 and ’32. Though UW isn’t planned out nearly as far as other programs, James Madison and Liberty have eight games scheduled between 2031 and 2040.
