SAN DIEGO, CA (WSAU) The Milwaukee Brewers broke a three-game losing streak with a 3-1 over the San Diego Padres Wednesday afternoon at Petco Park. It was their 96th win on the season which matches the franchise record.
The Brewers took a 1-0 lead in the fifth on an Andrew Vaughn base hit. The Padres tied it on a Jackson Merrill home run in the 6th. The Brewers regained the lead in the 7th when Brice Turang delivered a two-out hit that scored Jackson Chourio. Danny Jansen gave the Brewers some breathing room with a solo homer in the 9th.
Chad Patrick started and pitched three innings of scoreless ball with six Ks. Eric Fedde retired the first eight batters he faced before giving up Merrill’s home run. The Brewers then used Aaron Ashby, Nick Mears, Jared Koenig and Abner Uribe to finish up with Ashby getting the win and Uribe the save. Mears worked out of a bases loaded, one out jam in the 7th.
The Brewers magic number to clinch the best record in the National League is now one over the Phillies. Milwaukee has an off-day today before finishing the regular season with a three game weekend set with the Cincinnati Reds starting Friday night.
