CONLEY COMMENTARY (WSAU) For several years I haven’t cooked a Thanksgiving meal. I’ve had it catered. I pick up the food and bring it home.
Last year there was so much food that I couldn’t eat it all. After I’d maxed out on cold turkey sandwiches, I gave the leftovers to my pets.
This year I’m offering plates of turkey and fixins’ to others. Two of my kids are in-town for Thanksgiving, and their mother isn’t able to do a meal this year. So they’ll all get plates of food. So will a neighbor. So will a friend from church. There will still be more than enough.
This time of year reminds me that I should be embarrassed at all the blessings in my life. My cup overflows. I have more blessings than I can count.
Perhaps you find yourself in the same situation. How to respond?
I, first, acknowledge God. He is the giver of all good gifts.
And second, I have to live generously towards others. The bounty of my life has to be shared with others.
I hope that your table is filled with a bounty of good food and has friends and loved ones around it.
And I’d be remiss if I didn’t say that I’m thankful for you. My existence behind this microphone is because of sponsors and listeners. If it wasn’t for you, my career, which is one of the biggest blessings in my life, would not be. And for that, I say thank you.
Happy Thanksgiving.
