STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – The Portage County Board has voted 15-10 in favor of selling the health care center to The Ensign Group, ending county ownership.
The official sale and transfer of the center will go to Gelena Healthcare LLC and Timms Hill Health Holdings LLC, which are subsidiaries of the Ensign Group.
On Monday evening, the City of Stevens Point Common Council has passed all three requests from Portage County, regarding the future land use and rezoning of the county health care center.
The request to amend the future land use designation for the property passed 7-4, the request to rezone the property passed 8-3, and the request for a conditional use permit to operate a nursing home also passed 7-4.
Before the Common Council meeting, the City Plan Commission voted 6-1 in favor to amend the city’s Comprehensive Plan. This discussion concerns the future of the Portage County Health Care Center, and who operates it.
The county has requested a rezoning of the center from an R2 (government-run facility) to an R4 (commercial-run facility), along with a conditional use permit to operate a facility.
