WESTON, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — Police are investigating after an unloaded firearm was discovered in a student’s backpack at Mountain Bay Elementary School in Weston.
WAOW TV reports that the incident was reported on Monday morning, with the student immediately removed from school. Officials say they will face disciplinary action in line with school policy.
In a statement, the district expressed gratitude to the students who reported their concerns and thanked the staff and police for their quick response. “This reiterates how important it continues to be for us to ‘see something, say something,'” they said.
Student services staff are available for those who may have concerns following the incident.
