ABBOTSFORD, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — Officials with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are investigating the death of an employee at Abbyland Foods Inc. in Abbotsford.
The Colby-Abbotsford Police Department was called to the facility on Wednesday morning for a report of an employee who had fallen into a dip tank. They recovered the body some time later, and they were pronounced dead at the scene, according to a news release.
Officers determined that the death was not suspicious, calling it a “work-related incident.” OSHA has initiated its own investigation, according to WAOW TV, which is expected to be conducted over the next six months. During that time, no additional information will be provided.
The agency will post updates regarding the investigation to its Establishments Search page.
Abbyland has faced multiple worker safety issues in the past, including several cases between December 2022 and January 2023. Those investigations led to citations for repeat violations at the plant and 17 serious violations resulting in a proposed $277,472 in penalties by OSHA.
