Ed Deyo
STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — The man found guilty of hiding a felony in his Portage County home back in 2024 will not serve prison time.
Ed Deyo will serve five years of probation, including a nine-month jail sentence with work release privileges. Terms of his probation will also include weekly community service and treatment or counseling. He will also submit a DNA sample and may be forced to pay restitution to the Sheriff’s Office.
The case stemmed from a multi-day standoff in Amherst that occurred in the summer of 2024. Investigators say the 62-year-old picked up a suspect at a gas station in Coloma and brought him to his house.
Officers used digital evidence, including an IP address associated with his social media accounts, to track the suspect to Deyo’s home. They moved in with tactical teams, and the standoff ensued. The suspect eventually died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Should Deyo violate the terms of his probation, he may be forced to serve prison time. The charges against him carry a maximum sentence of up to ten years and thousands in fines.
