MADISON, WI (WSAU) — It took overtime, but the Badger men’s hockey team picked up a much-needed win over struggling Notre Dame 6-5 on Friday in a Big Ten Conference game.
Wisconsin went up 2-0 early behind goals from Luke Osborne and Grady Deering. Notre Dame would strike back, but Wisconsin would take a 4-2 lead after 20 minutes thanks to a second goal from Deering and a goal from Danny Nelson.
Osborne’s second goal of the game would put Wisconsin up 5-3 early in the second, but Notre Dame would score the next three goals unanswered to send the game to overtime at 5-5.
Quinn Finley would send everyone home happy, scoring the game-winner in overtime on assists from Osborne and Gavin Morrissey.
Daniel Hauser stopped 29 shots to get the win in goal.
Wisconsin is now 9-8-0 in B1G play and sits in 4th place with 24 points. They’ll take on Notre Dame again tonight; pregame coverage starts at 6:30 PM on WSAU.
The Badger women’s hockey team is also at home today; they’ll take on Ohio State in a top-5 showdown at LaBahn Arena.
