WESTON, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — Delivery drivers for Amazon Delivery Service Partner (DSP) Blue Thunder Logistics in Weston say they were given two days’ notice of the company’s closure this week.
According to WAOW TV, the employees were notified on Wednesday that the company would shut down on Friday. Blue Thunder dispatch confirmed the closure on Friday morning.
“We were basically given a two-day notice that we’re all losing our jobs,” said Collin Stafford, Amazon Delivery Associate for Blue Thunder Logistics. “Unfortunately, a lot of our workers here rely on the paycheck here, and they can’t just ‘switch like that’ to a different profession.”
Stafford added that Blue Thunder’s sister company, Kono Logistics, LLC, which operates in the same building, may hire some of the laid-off workers. A source familiar with Blue Thunder says roughly 80 to 100 people could be affected by the change.
The Department of Workforce Development says they were not notified of any potential changes. State law requires a 60-day notice for any closure or mass layoff involving more than 50 employees.
The impacted workers do have the option to file a complaint with the DWD Equal Rights Division.
Blue Thunder Logistics has not responded to requests for comment.
