Enhnort Leonardo Araujo Valero
WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A Chicago man accused of implanting an electronic device into an ATM at Brokaw Credit Union in Weston is now facing a similar charge in Waupaca County.
Enhnort Leonardo Araujo Valero is facing one felony count for interfering with an ATM in Marathon County for an incident last December. Investigators say the device was designed to trick the machine into dispensing cash when activated by another device and without a corresponding, legitimate transaction, a crime known as “Jackpotting.”
Officers arrived on the scene after receiving an alert from the machine regarding potential suspicious activity. When they arrived, they found Araujo Valero sitting in his vehicle with a computer and about $400 in $20 bills nearby.
Court records now show he is facing two additional charges of interfering with an ATM in Waupaca County, filed on April 6th. It’s unclear if the two cases are related.
Interfering with an ATM is a Class H felony punishable by up to six years in the state prison system and $10,000 in fines.
The 27-year-old has been held in the Marathon County Jail on a $25,000 cash bond since mid-December. He made an appearance on the Marathon County charges on Wednesday, and is due to appear on the Waupaca County charges on April 28th.
