WESTON, WI (WSAU) — Riverside Elementary students and staff will return to class this week at the Greenheck Turner Community Center.
Teachers and staff have spent Monday and Tuesday preparing rooms to open the makeshift school by Wednesday. Students and parents are invited to a reconnection event this evening. Students will be invited to reconnect with their classmates and tour their new learning space.
During that time, parents will receive logistical information, including student drop-off and pickup procedures.
“Our primary goal for Wednesday through Friday is not just instruction, but reconnection. We want to provide a safe, predictable environment where students can process recent events alongside their teachers and friends. Stability is the first step toward recovery, and we are committed to providing that for every child,” said district leaders in a letter to parents.
The change will also impact those who utilize the fitness center and other community spaces at GTCC. The fitness center and walking lanes will be unavailable for members during school hours, and all room and sports simulator rentals will be canceled until further notice.
The Aspirus branch of the Woodson YMCA in Weston has agreed to honor fitness memberships for the time being, but users will need to fill out paperwork in line with the YMCA’s enrollment policies. Daytime fitness classes have also been canceled, but early-morning and evening classes will continue.
