CONLEY COMMENTARY (WSAU) – Have you ever thought about a statement of faith? Sometimes an independent church, or a Christian charity or a Christian business finds a statement of faith to be appropriate.
Have you considered your personal statement of faith? It may be difficult to put into words.
I’ve tried to write my own statement of faith, and I found it much trickier than I expected. Mine is certainly imperfect.
I believe in God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Jesus Christ, his only son, was sent to Earth to save us. His grace and mercy are available to anyone who calls on Him.
He was crucified for our sins.
We are sinful by nature, and Christ’s shed blood is the only way for us to be reconciled to God.
Whoever calls on Jesus as their Lord and Master is saved, their sins are forgiven. They are written into the book of life and have a place in paradise.
Surely my statement of faith is incomplete. Theologians might give me an “F”.
But I would add one more thing to my statement. Those who call Jesus lord have an obligation to tell others about him and to bring others to him. That’s not a good work that earns us entry into paradise; we are saved only by grace. But bringing others to Christ is the natural, joyful response to that grace. It must be shared with others.
So that’s my statement of faith. How’d I do?
You should think about yours.
