MINNEAPOLIS, MN (WSAU) — William Contreras brought home runs on an RBI single and a fielder’s choice, and Jake Bauers recorded an RBI double to give the Brewers a 3-2 win over the Minnesota Twins on Rivalry Weekend in baseball.
Jackson Chourio and Bauers each had two hits. Contreras was 1-4, including a first-inning single that scored Chourio. Then in the 8th, he would reach on a fielder’s choice that ended with an interference call on Minnesota third baseman Royce Lewis.
Coleman Crow made a spot start for the Crew and went five innings, allowing just three hits and one earned run. Aaron Ashby (8-0) covered the next two innings and allowed one earned run on four hits, and was credited with the win despite also being charged with a blown save.
Abner Uribe and Trevor Megill shut the door in the 8th and 9th, respectively. Megill would earn the save, his 5th of the season.
The loss would be the first of two gut-punches for fans in the Twin Cities on Friday. The Minnesota Timberwolves lost to the San Antonio Spurs 139-109 and were eliminated from the NBA Playoffs just a few hours later at Target Center.
Game two of the three-game set is this evening, coverage begins at 5:35 on WSAU.
