WASHINGTON, DC (WSAU) – President Donald Trump stated in an interview on Saturday that he’s in “no hurry” to sign a peace deal with Iran as his administration continues to crack down on the regime’s ability to obtain a nuclear weapon.
According to the president, who spoke about the deal with Fox News on his daughter-in-law’s show “My View with Lara Trump,” “Slowly but surely, we’re getting, I think, what we want,” the president said before adding, “I’d like to say I’m in a hurry, because you know what, gasoline prices are going to come tumbling down, but if you’re going to be in a hurry, you’re not going to make a good deal.”
Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth reaffirmed that the Trump administration will only reach a “great deal” with Iran and cautioned that failure to do so could result in new military action after President Trump informed media outlets on Friday that he was meeting in the White House Situation Room to “make a final determination” on an agreement with Iran.
In response to the potential of a peace deal, Brent crude plunged more than 11% this week, the largest weekly decline in seven weeks, while US West Texas Intermediate fell more than 9%, the largest weekly drop in six weeks. Both benchmarks reached their lowest levels since mid-April.
