JUNEAU, WIS – For decades, June Dairy Month has been an opportunity to celebrate the role of dairy in a healthy lifestyle and recognize the work of dairy farmers to provide milk and other dairy product to communities in Wisconsin and around the world.
Professional Dairy Producers (PDP) is inviting members of the community and broader dairy industry to honor the work of dairy producers by a small act: giving blood. The organization, which represents dairy producers from 2,000 farms and has members across 36 states, is hosting its third annual Community Blood Drive from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, June 22, at PDP headquarters at 820 N. Main Street in Juneau. The blood drive will be coordinated by the American Red Cross.
“Right now we are seeing a donor shortage,” said Ellen Gorham, executive director, Greater Triangle Area Chapter of the American Red Cross, “and we are anticipating that if people don’t sign up to donate now and in the weeks ahead that we will absolutely be in a blood shortage later this summer.”
Interested donors can register for a preferred time slot here; be sure to choose the Monday, June 22, event hosted by Professional Dairy Producers. Donors are advised to drink plenty of water and eat a healthy meal before donating. More information about what to do before, during and after donations is available on the American Red Cross website.
In honor of June Dairy Month, PDP will offer donors grilled cheese sandwiches, yogurt, milk and cookies, ice cream and more. Donors will also receive a $15 gift card from the American Red Cross. PDP is a producer-led and education-centric organization, focusing on producer professionalism, stakeholder engagement and outreach to share ideas, solutions, resources and experiences that help dairy producers succeed.
